As I write this overlooking your beautiful lake I can’t help but think how much more amazing life can be. Coming from New York with dreams of travelling the world, passing through many hostels within the past few years, I can honestly say from the moment Maurice stepped onto our bus, the energy/vibe was instant. His welcoming nature and warm smile seeped right through me. This then extended to another gorgeous smile of Nadine’s and I knew that this was truly a hidden gem in the depths of New Zealand. Upon arrival I knew that this was going to be a highlight of my time spent here in this special part of the world. From the food to the atmosphere, I really don’t know if there are words to explain how comforted, at peace and a part of your family I felt. I have merely been here a few hours and my soul feels nourished, loved and serene because of your genuine hospitality. As the world grows older and culture becomes more scarce, your land here is more valuable to travellers like myself who seek solace and calm in the busy life of a backpacker. On top of the fact that you are making a difference for Maori and the children of it, you do it with class and real emotion. I can’t help but think how much more amazing this world would be if there were more families like yourselves trying their hardest to keep tradition and family first. I can’t thank you enough for how I’ve been treated here. You have truly moved me and this will always be one of my favourite and closest memories I hold to my heart when I think of New Zealand and my travelling. I wish you all the absolute best and luck in your endeavours for making this place into a paradise for visitors to come. My heart feels right here, and there’s never a price tag I could put on that.
